Oral Argumentation Skills between Process and Product

Oral argumentation skills have become a ‘hot topic’ within pragmatic language acquisition research as well didactical research. In this study, we first discuss characteristics specific to oral which, compared written argumentation, has its own mediality and therefore requirements. To reconstruct different levels of school children in grades 2, 4 6, collected corpus 180 peer discussions without adult supervision analyzed them based on conversation analysis. our case study compare two conversations terms modalizations epistemic stances positionings justifications briefly show how the use can shape both character argumentative structure conversation. We argue that process-related stylistic conversational aspects beyond structural narrow sense high degree belong core skills.
